I USED TO BE A GARAGE TOUT - GOV. SAM ORTOM

Chief Samuel Ortom, the Benue State Governor-elect, has revealed his grass to grace story.
He disclosed that he was once a motor park tout and his election as governor was simply a divine arrangement and the handiwork of God.

Speaking to Punch in an exclusive chat in Makurdi, he said:

He said, “My journey from being a motor park tout to an elected governor is purely a divine arrangement. I cast my mind back to when I dropped out of school in Form 2 but I remained hardworking and I did not engage in crime to survive.

“One thing I know is that hard work pays and you must keep faith with God; power belongs to God and He alone gives it to whoever He will.”
The former Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment said he had dropped out of school in Form 2 due to lack of funds but this did not force him to engage in criminal activities to survive.

SEVILLA LIFT EUROPA CUP AGAIN.

Sevilla became the first side to win European football’s second-tier competition on four occasions with a pulsating 3-2 victory over Dnipro in Wednesday’s Europa League final.
The Andalusian club lifted the trophy in 2006 and 2007 – under its former guise as the Uefa Cup – and they have now made it back-to-back crowns for a second time, as Carlos Bacca scored twice to prove the hero.
Unai Emery’s side won the competition last season in a penalty shootout following a nervy 0-0 draw with Benfica, but this encounter proved a much more entertaining affair.
Dnipro, competing in their first European final, took an early lead through Nikola Kalinic, but they then found themselves behind when Sevilla struck twice in three minutes.
First, Grzegorz Krychowiak fired home after Dnipro had failed to deal with a ball into the box, and then Bacca produced a composed finish.
The Ukrainian side battled to level before the break, as captain Ruslan Rotan converted a free-kick.
However, it was Bacca who had the final say, latching onto Vitolo’s clever pass to rifle home with 17 minutes left to play and ensuring Sevilla claimed a piece of history – and a spot in next season’s Champions League.

FIFA CAUGHT BY FBI

For those watching FIFA over decades can not understand how this organisation has been allowed to continue its corrupt ways for so long. Its been no secret that so many executives over so long have had their fingers in the cookie jar. The amazing thing has been no organisation or legal authority has been able to pin anything on FIFA.
They cover their tracks very well in FIFA and no matter how much mud is been flying around nothing has stuck or even smudged the less than lily white suits of FIFA executives.
Blatter is the master of avoiding blame. Its always someone else and not him. He gets re elected each time as he works on the under develop countries. How does he get votes I hope we will see during the criminal investigation.
FIFA tactics are often about deflection and they will do so again. They will put into play their organisation capability to take on any investigation and do nothing and say nothing they will delay and hope things quieten down and the heat goes away. This time it might not!
How can such a wealthy organisation that has its reach world wide at Government level get away with things for so long? I hope we will soon find out.
Any ethical organisation would see its top executives resign for less than Blatter and his team has been accused. Yet they will hold their presidential elections on Friday as if nothing has happened , but it has!
This time I hope they don't get away with
Its taken the FBI and the USA Government to have the courage to take FIFA on and they put all other agencies to shame. Thank goodness for the USA and the FBI and I hope that this time they will get their man.
Questions now should be what should come after FIFA? What of the World Cup? Should there be a totally ne Governing body founded with checks and balances against corruption?

MULTIPLE PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION CARDS MISSING

The Peoples Democratic Party has cornered nearly 4,000 of the 5,000 invitation cards for the inauguration of Muhammadu Buhari as President on Friday.
A source on the Inauguration Committee co-chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim and former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, told PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday that the action to hijack the cards is deliberate.
“We don’t want President Goodluck Jonathan to be embarrassed during the ceremony as we gather that there are plans to boo the outgoing President during the ceremony,” the source said.
“It is imperative that we give the outgoing President a cheerful exit,” he added.
According to the source, the development is already generating tension among members of the Committee following spirited pressures by other political parties not to be left out of the ceremony.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and erstwhile Chairman of defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Tony Momoh, has threatened to boycott the inauguration ceremony.
It was gathered that all the efforts of Mr. Momoh to secure an access card has failed.
“As we speak, the house of Prince Momoh is filled with people asking for invitation cards. Sadly, Prince Momoh does not even have a card to himself.”
Furthermore, it was gathered that the APC has 1,300 invitation cards only for its local and foreign dignitaries who have declared interest in attending the ceremony.
Even the APC itself is not left out of the acrimony as there are claims that former Governor Sylva, who represents the interest of the incoming government in the Committee has allegedly absconded with the invitation cards allotted to it.
“The representative of the APC in the Inauguration Committee is playing hide and seek with his own people as some members of the its Presidential Campaign and even top notch of the party are without the necessary accredited access into the Eagle Square venue of the event,” the source said.
Mr. Sylva could not be reached for comments.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that it is complain galore as serving former governors, serving members and incoming members  of the National Assembly, party chieftains including members of the Inauguration Committee itself and media chieftains some of whom had the honour of being part of US President Barack Obama’s inauguration have been left out of the Friday handover ceremony

I WANT TO PICK WHO I WANT AS MINISTER - BUHARI

image
He revealed that the Governors will not have a say in whom he picks in his cabinet. He emphasised that since the Governors are at liberty to pick their commissioners, he too should be allowed to pick whomever his heart desires, as he revealed that he has kept mum on the Ministerial talks because he knows whom he wants and he has kept it to himself.
Buhari made this known in an exclusive interview he granted senior editors ofDaily Trust at his country home in Daura, Katsina State on Tuesday.
As the May 29 handover date draws closer, there have been speculations about those who would make the next government’s ministerial list.
Most of the persons who featured on the speculative list were picked from across the 36 states and the six geopolitical zones, to rhyme with the PDP’s tradition of appointing a minimum of one minister from each state of the federation and six others from the geopolitical zones.
In the interview, Buhari dismissed the speculations, by stating that “I am not speaking about it; I have not put anything on paper, so nobody has seen it and I haven’t discussed it with anybody; I am just keeping it close to my chest.”
The exclusive interview was conducted in-between a series of emotional activities in which the president-elect met with his primary and secondary school mates and other personal friends to exchange banters because, as he put it, as from May 29, he would be too busy with the affairs of Nigeria, hence it would be difficult to find time to socialise with his cherished friends from his childhood.
Providing an insight into how his ministers would emerge, Buhari said, “I am ardent listener of Hausa Service of Voice of America (VOA) and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) from 6am to 7am every morning.
I am going to quote myself because I heard in one of the interviews that I said the type of people I am supposed to appoint, like in the cabinet and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and service chiefs, will be different. Definitely my approach is going to be different from what we had under the PDP where governors nominated ministers.”
The president-elect said if state governors are at liberty to appoint their commissioners, he, too, should be at liberty to choose those who would serve with him in the Federal Executive Council.
According to Buhari, he was still looking around for the kind of persons who could help to transform the country, stating that,
“I have been around long enough to know people that I can approach for things like that… Deliberately we will look for competent people, dedicated and experienced to head ministries and, of course, there will be schedules for ministers and we will expect them to fill them.
Economically we will try and stop a lot of wastages and encourage austerity so that we can fund the ministries. Education and healthcare will get more attention. Of course, security is Number One.
Certainly, there is a lot to do but we are hoping that we ‘ll get good people to be in charge of ministries who can apply themselves to their responsibilities so that in no time Nigerians would begin to see the difference.”
When asked if he would present the list of his ministers to the Senate in the first week of the proclamation of the new legislature, Buhari simply responded
“I will not make that known before you.”
He spoke extensively on why he is insisting that the principle of separation of powers among the three arms of government should be obeyed; the power sharing in the All Progressives Congress (APC); fuel subsidy; the lack of progress made in the handover from President Goodluck Jonathan to him, and much more.
