FRSC GOES ON NATION WIDE CLAMPDOWN ON RICKETY VEHICLES

In order to further reduce road traffic crashes across the country, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps Boboye Oyeyemi has read a riot act on operators of rickety vehicles plying the nation’s highways, indicating that the Corps will commence a nationwide prosecution of owners or operators of such vehicles.
The Corps Marshal stated that the nationwide exercise which will commence on 1st  March,  2015, forms part of the Corps’ commitment towards sustaining the tempo of its operational activities and to create safer motoring environment in the country, anchored on its 2015 strategic goals of reducing road traffic crashes by 20% and fatalities by 30%.
According to Oyeyemi, one of the core values of the FRSC is to improve on its regulatory capacity and enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, in addition to rescue and advisory capacity, targeted at drastic reduction in road traffic crashes. While recalling the common sight of poorly maintained vehicles on the nation highways which often break down and result in obstructions of traffic flow, the Corps Marshal also warned motorists to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles in view of inherent traffic hazards associated with abandoned broken down vehicles especially at night.
Similarly, the Corps has concluded plans for total enforcement on number plate violations, and the prosecution of motorists with fake drivers’ license in line with the provisions of Section 74 (1) and (2) of the National Road Traffic Regulations (2012). Prospective drivers are therefore advised to approach FRSC designated Drivers’ License Centers, States Board of Internal Revenue and Vehicle Inspection Offices (VIO) nationwide, to obtain their genuine vehicle number plates and driver’s licence.

VAN PERSIE OUT FOR 2WEEKS

Robin van Persie left the Liberty Stadium on crutches and wearing a protective cast on his right foot
Manchester United striker Robin van Persie could be out for more than two weeks with an ankle problem, says manager Louis van Gaal.
Van Persie, 31, fell awkwardly after putting over a cross in the defeat at Swansea on 21 February.
The Dutchman left the Liberty Stadium on crutches and wearing a protective cast on his right foot.
"I do not think it is very heavy but ankle problems can take a long time," said Van Gaal.
"It is not one or two weeks."
It means Van Persie will miss the forthcoming Premier League games with Sunderland and Newcastle, plus the FA Cup quarter-final with old club Arsenal at Old Trafford on 9 March.
Midfielder Michael Carrick is available after missing six games with a calf injury.
United have only lost one game when Carrick has started this season but Van Gaal said tomorrow's game might come too soon for the 33-year-old.
"He needs match rhythm," he said. "He only trained one time with the group."

'It's a rat race'

The defeat at Swansea dropped United to fourth place, with four points separating Arsenal in third and Tottenham in seventh.
"It is a rat race between five clubs," said Van Gaal. "Therefore you have to win your matches because the other clubs are winning their matches.
"We are not unhappy. I am pleased with the results, but not with a lot of the performances.
"If you told me at the start of the season I would be in the first four at the start of May, I would have signed for it.
"When I came here, that was my goal and we are still there. But, of course, it would be a big disappointment not to make it."

COURT ADJOURNS GEN BUHARI SITTING

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja will on March 19 hear ‎all applications challenging the eligibility of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, to contest the forthcoming presidential election.
At the resumed hearing on Monday of two earlier suits filed by Chukwunweike Okafor and Donald Daunamigba, counsel to the plaintiff, Mike Ozekhome, told the court that he was willing to continue with the argument, noting that he had not been served with all processes.
After his observation, he was served with the process, but he asked the court for a short date to enable him
study the process
He further requested for accelerated hearing, pointing out that the outcome of the case would have effect on the forthcoming elections.
But the Defence Counsel, Akin Olujimi and Lateef Fagbemi, were quick to respond that the outcome of the case could not be a condition precedent on the conduct of the election, reminding the court that there was an application requesting that the court should set aside the totality of the summon on Buhari, which had not been responded to.
The Federal High Court Judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, adjourned the case till March 19 to enable the court hear all the applications, including those seeking for joinder.
There are 13 suits instituted against the APC’s presidential candidate, General Buhari, challenging his eligibility to contest in the March 28 presidential election.
The plaintiffs in the suits also argued that failure of Buhari to accompany his form CF001 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with his certificates of academic qualifications, rendered him ineligible to participate in the poll.
They stressed that failure to submit the said certificate, would mean that he had failed to comply with the provisions of sections 131 and 318 of the Nigerian Constitution and section 31 (3) of the Electoral Act.
Responding to the certificate controversy, the APC had dismissed claims that General Buhari was not qualified to contest in the elections.
Government College, formerly Provincial Secondary School, Katsina, which General Buhari graduated from in 1961, had released his Secondary School Certificate Examination results.
Before the certificate was released, General Buhari had described the claims as ‘desperation of disinformation’.
“I have contested elections three times and that’s the same rule by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) where there is basic education qualification that you have and I was allowed to contest all these election because my certificate was in order.
“There are even individuals that wrote to the United States War College and the College answered them and its published in some of your papers.

CHELSEA STAR JOINS GERMAN TEAM PERMANENTLY.

Younger brother of Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has left the Premier League club and joined German team Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Thorgan-Hazard
The 21-year-old Thorgan Hazard didn’t play a competitive match for Chelsea after signing in 2012 — in the same summer as Eden joined from Lille.
Thorgan Hazard spent two full seasons on loan at Zulte Waregem, in his native Belgium, and has been on loan at Moenchengladbach this season.
German media are reporting that Hazard has moved for a fee of 8 million euros ($9 million). Chelsea says Monday it has the right to exercise a future buy-back option on Hazard.

JOSE MOURHINHO SHUNS BBC JOURNALIST.

The love-in between the BBC and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is over after just four days.
Mourinho gave a smiley interview to the Beeb following Saturday’s 1-2 win at Aston Villa, saying he was only happy to do that interview because the BBC did not ask for his players to be banned.
But when Match of the Day’s Jonathan Pearce asked – in the most roundabout of ways – whether Branislav Ivanovic should be banned for his headbutt on Everton’s James McCarthy last night, it was straight to the naughty corner for the BBC.

10 MANAGERS TOPPING ASTON VILLA MANAGER'S WANTED LIST

Paul Lambert has been sacked this evening. So, who is going to be the next Aston Villa manager? Here are the people the bookies currently think are the main contenders.

1. Tim Sherwood

Despite being odds-on for the Queens Park Rangers job in recent days, the lack of progress there has led to Sherwood being installed as the early favourite to be the new Villa manager. He did a decent job during his brief stint at Tottenham Hotspur last season, but has no managerial experience beyond that.

2. Michael Laudrup

The former Swansea City manager has been out of work since leaving the Liberty Stadium last season. He was somewhat unfortunate to lose his job with the Swans during a gruelling Europa League season and has proven he can do a job in the Premier League. His brand of football would instantly get Lambert’s detractors onside.

3. Mark Warburton

Warburton has done a very impressive job with Brentford, but is rumoured to be heading for the exit due to disagreements with the club’s hierarchy over appointments to his coaching staff. He was expected to see out the season, but the offer of the Villa job might change that.

4. Roy Keane

Lambert’s one-time assistant quit his post to concentrate on his job with the Republic of Ireland, but amid rumours of a bust-up with the players. Would Villa’s hierarchy see him as the man to shake the squad into action?

5. Jurgen Klinsmann

The USA coach has shorter odds than he usually does when Premier League posts become available. It remains to be seen if that is based on any solid information, but the bookies seem to think the former Tottenham striker is in with a shot.

6. Harry Redknapp

Redknapp recently quit his QPR job claiming his knees were stopping him from performing his duties. Taking the Villa job would blow that story out of the water, but the bookies seem to think he is in the mix. The 67-year-old would’t be a long-term appointment.

7. Paul Clement

While his name includes many of the same letters, this would be a departure from Lambert. Carlo Ancelotti’s English assistant is starting to be linked with a move away from Real Madrid to forge his own managerial career. He is thought to be in with a shout of the Villa job.

8. Neil Lennon

Despite only recently taking over at Championship side Bolton Wanderers, Lennon has been instantly linked with a move to Villa Park. He has impressed at Bolton, continuing the good work he did at Celtic.

9. Murat Yakin

The former Switzerland international is currently in charge of Russian side Spartak Moscow. He carved out a good reputation with his achievements in charge of Basel.

10. Sean Dyche

There are rumours that Villa will aim to poach Sean Dyche from relegation battle rivals Burnley. The Clarets are currently a place below Villa in the Premier League table, but Dyche did incredibly well to achieve promotion from the Championship last season and, given his budget, to avoid being cut adrift this term.
